This is the second time I’ve photographed Joe Dolce & his playfulness, openness & warmth made both occasions so much fun.
The first shoot with Joe & his partner (a renowned artist in her own right) Lin Van Hek was a couple of years ago, when I was photographing couples all over the east coast of Australia for the Creative Couples Project. A glimpse inside their world was witnessing the total dedication of an artist’s life & the unwillingness to be boxed in to one genre. Joe originally shot to fame with the now iconic, multi-million-selling song, “Shaddap You Face” in the 80’s, but continues to create across the fields of music, poetry & photography. With Lin also being a painter, writer & singer, their home is filled almost from floor to ceiling with their creations. It’s truly inspiring.
So this time, Joe & I caught up to create a portrait entry for the National Photographic Portrait Prize. Joe & I both have pretty cheeky, playful natures, so it made total sense when Joe spotted an umbrella in his room, that we went with it. We didn’t get a shortlisting unfortunately, but I love these photos anyway. Here’s a few of the shots we came up with.
